AI Translation Quota

LangSyncer uses a quota system to track AI translation usage. This guide explains how quotas work and how to manage them effectively.

How Quota Works

What Consumes Quota

Only AI translations consume quota:

  • Translating "Hello" to Spanish = 1 unit
  • Translating "Hello" to Spanish AND French = 2 units
  • Re-translating the same text = uses additional units
  • Code Scanner with --ai flag = 1 unit per candidate

What does NOT consume quota:

  • Creating translation keys (unlimited)
  • Manual translations (typing values yourself)
  • Publishing translations
  • CDN regeneration

Quota Sources

Your available quota comes from two sources:

Source Behavior
Monthly Quota Included with your subscription tier, resets on billing date
Purchased Quota One-time purchase, never expires, never resets

The system uses smart consumption: monthly quota is consumed first, purchased quota is used only when monthly runs out.

Viewing Your Usage

In the Dashboard

The quota indicator appears on translation pages showing:

  • Monthly quota usage (progress bar)
  • Purchased quota available (if any)
  • Usage percentage

Project-Level Usage

If a project has a quota limit configured, you'll see project-specific usage alongside account usage.

Quota Limits by Tier

Tier AI Translations/Month
Free 100
Icebreaker 3,000

What Happens at Limit

When Monthly Quota is Exhausted

If you have purchased quota:

  • System automatically switches to purchased quota
  • AI translations continue working
  • No interruption

If you have no purchased quota:

  • AI translation buttons become disabled
  • "Quota Exceeded" message appears
  • Manual translation still works

Warning Notifications

You'll receive notifications at these thresholds:

Threshold Notification
80% Email warning with usage summary
100% Email + dashboard alert, AI translations blocked

Purchasing More Quota

Quota Packs

Need more AI translations without upgrading your tier? Buy quota packs:

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription
  2. Scroll to Quota Packs
  3. Select a pack:
Pack Translations Price
Starter 1,000 €5 / $6
Popular 5,000 €20 / $23
Best Value 10,000 €35 / $39
  1. Complete checkout
  2. Quota is added immediately

Key benefits:

  • Purchased quota never expires
  • Never resets (carries over indefinitely)
  • Can be combined with any subscription tier

Upgrading to Icebreaker

If you're on the Free tier and need more quota consistently, upgrade to Icebreaker:

  1. Go to Subscription
  2. Click Upgrade to Icebreaker
  3. Complete checkout
  4. Your monthly quota increases to 3,000 immediately

Project Quota Limits

Administrators can set per-project limits to prevent one project from consuming all account quota.

How It Works

  • Set a monthly limit for specific projects
  • Project users see project-specific quota indicator
  • When project limit is reached, AI translations are blocked for that project only
  • Other projects can continue using account quota

Configuring Project Limits

  1. Go to Projects
  2. Click Edit on the project
  3. Set AI Quota Limit (0 = unlimited)

Managing Your Quota

Optimize AI Usage

  1. Batch translate: Use "Translate Missing" to translate multiple keys at once (more efficient)
  2. Review before re-translating: Check AI output before requesting another translation

Monitor Usage

  • Check the quota indicator regularly
  • Review usage trends in project settings
  • Set up email notifications (enabled by default)

FAQ

Does creating translation keys use quota?

No. You can create unlimited translation keys. Only AI-powered translations consume quota.

What happens to unused monthly quota?

It resets on your billing date. Unused monthly quota does not roll over.

What happens to purchased quota?

It never expires and never resets. Purchased quota remains until you use it.

Can I get a refund on purchased quota?

Purchased quota is non-refundable. Consider starting with smaller packs if unsure about your needs.
