Lokalise vs Transifex

A developer-first TMS against an AI-first platform for product and content.

Lokalise and Transifex both target software companies that localize a product and the content around it. Each syncs with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure Repos, offers a CLI and API, supports translation memory, glossaries, QA and screenshots, and has put AI translation at the centre of its pitch.

The contrast is in emphasis. Lokalise is built for developers and product teams, with mobile over-the-air SDKs, design integrations and automations. Transifex, part of XTM International since 2025, positions itself as AI localization for product, marketing and developer teams, with pricing based on AI-translated words and Transifex Native for runtime string delivery.

At a glance

Lokalise is the stronger choice for developer-led teams shipping mobile apps and keeping Laravel or other nested PHP lang files. Transifex is the stronger choice for teams that want AI to do most of the translating, predictable pricing that ignores seats, and runtime delivery through Transifex Native.

Where they really differ

How much of the work AI does

Both platforms use AI to produce first drafts that respect your glossary. Transifex builds its pricing and positioning around that: you pay for AI-translated words, and human post-editing adds no usage charge, which rewards a workflow where AI drafts and people review. Lokalise prices on a mix of words, seats and usage, and its AI features sit within a broader platform of tasks, automations and design integrations. If your team wants AI to carry most of the load, Transifex’s model is the more direct fit.

Content beyond the app

Transifex leans further into marketing and support content, with integrations for HubSpot, Zendesk and Shopify alongside code hosting, and Transifex Live for translating websites through a JavaScript layer. Lokalise covers CMS content through Contentful, Webflow and WordPress integrations but is centred on the product itself, especially web and mobile apps.

Laravel lang files

Lokalise lists a dedicated PHP Laravel language files format, so nested arrays from a Laravel lang directory round-trip cleanly. Transifex supports PHP arrays, but its documentation says the parser only reads flat arrays and recommends flattening nested keys into dot notation. Since most Laravel PHP lang files are nested, that is a meaningful difference. Both support JSON, which covers Laravel’s JSON lang files.

Quality control

Lokalise runs automated QA checks for placeholders, tags, spaces, length and spelling, offers an AI-driven language quality assessment task, and links screenshots to keys automatically so reviewers see each string in place. Transifex pairs its AI translation with a quality index that scores output, plus screenshots and live previews for context. Both aim at the same goal, catching bad translations before users do, and both let you keep humans in the review loop where it counts.

Choose Lokalise if…

  • Developers and product managers run localization day to day.
  • You ship native iOS, Android or Flutter apps that need OTA updates.
  • You keep Laravel translations in nested PHP lang files.
  • Designers work in Figma and you want copy flowing between design and code.

Choose Transifex if…

  • You want pricing based on AI-translated words, not seats or hosted content.
  • AI should draft most translations, with people reviewing.
  • You also translate websites, help centres and marketing content.
  • Your project qualifies for the Transifex Open Source Program.

If you are a Laravel team, consider LangSyncer

If you are a Laravel team comparing Lokalise and Transifex, consider a tool that starts from Laravel. LangSyncer imports your nested PHP and JSON lang files as they are, translates with GPT or DeepL in one click, finds hardcoded strings with a built-in code scanner, and publishes changes to production without a deploy.
